Yes, you can perform a standard internet search to find a handful of online Halloween costume websites or you can visit a local seasonal store, but I have another suggestion for you. That suggestion is turning to Craigslist.org. Why should you buy a costume from Craigslist?

1 – Cheap Prices

As you know, most items sold on Craigslist are used. This means you should get a discount off the original retail price. What is nice about costumes is that most people only wear them once and toss them into a closet before waiting until next year to sell on Craigslist. This means even though you are buying a cheap Halloween costume and a used one, it should be in pretty good shape. Of course, you want to carefully examine pictures and ask the seller questions too.

2 – Large Selection

With the economy in poor shape, many Americans are trying to make extra money. This means more people are listing their old costumes on Craigslist. That $10 or $20 could put gas in the car or go towards some much needed groceries. As more people list things for sale on the website, you get a larger selection of products. As for Halloween costumes, you can expand your chances of find a good, cheap outfit by searching more than just a local area. Whether you do different searches on Craigslist.org or use a Craigslist search tool, expand your reach by searching your three nearest cities.

3 – Hard to Find or Unique Costumes

Not only will you find a wide range of costumes on Craigslist, but some of those may be limited edition, vintage, or just hard to find ones. Once again, you can expand your reach by searching more than just your local city page. When it comes to tracking down a vintage or rare costume, you may need to ask the seller to ship the purchase to your home. While Craigslist warns against shipping (because they are designed to connect local buyers and sellers) it is usually safe if shipping was your idea.

4 – Avoid the Busy Stores

If you thought Black Friday was bad, wait until you see a local Halloween store a few days before Halloween. Sometimes there isn’t even enough room to move around. Moreover, many costumes are just tossed around the store by customers who keep changing their mind. If you want to avoid the last minute rush, hassle, and busy crowds, buying an online Halloween costume or one from Craigslist is recommended.

5 – It Won’t Hurt to Look

Unlike browsing a local store, searching for cheap Halloween costumes on Craigslist is easy. You don’t waste gas or time visiting nearby stores. All you do is log onto the internet, visit Craigslist.org, choose your local page and search! Plus, you can search in the middle of the night if you want! However, I wouldn’t recommend calling a seller in the middle of the night; that “I want your costume” call should wait until morning.
