Internet Helps People In Need

Internet, social media, web 2.0 and anything else that has to do with Web definition, is seen, by some, in a negative way. It is not the first time that a revolutionary change is blamed for social, political and even personal problems. But not all is bad with the Web. Internet is a technology that has certainly revolutionized the way things are done.

It is true that people think that the Internet has created new social issues. The Blog Off-the-record, in one of its posts, details the benefits and virtues of the Internet in the area of social responsibility.

The blog posts the question: How would we find out about non-profit organizations without the existence of the Internet? For example, it talks about the excellent campaigns put in place by betterplace.org, where users can make fast and direct donations to help people in need in the same area. Better Place is a large online donation platform with more than 124,000 donors that support in excess of 2,000 projects in 111 countries.

Charitywater.org goes a step further, investing in the production of drinking water in third world countries. Almost a billion people on the planet do not have access to clean, safe drinking water. That equals to one in eight of us.

Portals as ‘One Warm Winter’, dedicate themselves exclusively to design specific campaigns. For each Euro collected they bought jackets for homeless in Berlin during winter. Their goal is to provide any person in need with a warm coat, free of charge. Each person can organize a group through this organization to provide help to people in their community.

There are many other organizations, all over the world, which are very successful in their campaigns due to the existence of the Internet. The web has provided the means for people to donate and help those in need. Through the Internet people can make donations, organizations can blog about what they are doing. Social media also supports these efforts and can move hundred of thousands of people all over the world.

Charity organizations are not all founded by rich people and/or celebrities. But they are all easily found on the Internet. With the access to Internet, anyone that wants to help or manage a campaign can do it. Without a doubt, Internet is not as bad as it seems. It is a mean by which all of us can collaborate and be part of charity organizations that think about people in need.
