Questions to Ask Your Windows and Doors Salesperson
You’ve decided to upgrade your home, and update your look, with new windows and doors. Perhaps you want new vinyl windows, which improve curb appeal and save energy. But the choice can be bewildering: choice of company, as well as choice of style.
If you’re in Ontario, there are literally hundreds of windows and doors companies vying for your business. How do they all stay in business? Well, for example, there are over 366,000 people in London, Ontario. That adds up to an awful lot of windows in all those homes and businesses!
And once you’ve chosen your windows and doors company, you have to decide on the right style for you. How do you make the right decisions for your taste, and your budget?
Here are some questions you could ask your windows and doors salesperson to help you decide.
How long has your company been in business?
You might be impressed with a low quote, but make sure the company is well-respected and reliable. If the company has been around for many years, you’re sure to find reviews and testimonials online. Take advantage of this and research as much as you can.
Has your company won any awards?
If they have, make sure the award is from a reputable source. For example, winning Company of the Year from the City of Vaughan, Ontario would be preferable to winning a local free paper’s “Five Stars” award.
Do you use Canadian products?
We’re all concerned about the Canadian economy, and using Canadian-made products will help keep jobs in Canada.
Do they offer a Lifetime Warranty?
This will give you peace of mind. Ask if the warranty is non pro-rated, and fully transferrable. Does the warranty cover the window hardware, components, and glass? Make sure you’ll get a full written factory lifetime warranty once the installation is done.
How large is your service area?
Make sure they cover your area, which also means that if there are any problems after installation, they’ll be dealt with quickly. There’s no point buying cheap windows from a store in Sudbury if you live in London.
How many window styles do you have?
Most windows companies claim to have a wide range of styles. Make sure they offer the style you want. If you want to renovate into a new look, discuss the options with the salesperson. Can you visit their factory?? Do they have a gallery of their work?
Do you custom manufacture your windows?
This will give you better quality for a lower cost. Try not to deal with a middle-man.
How many door styles do you have?
Again, you want to make sure the company offers the look you want, at the price you can afford. Do they offer several design collections?
What are the exterior doors made of?
Does the company offer a variety of features and materials? Ask if their doors are made of steel or fiberglass. Do they use tempered or laminated glass?
