President Trump, has often, urged many Governors, to reopen state’s economies, and schools, by certain deadlines, instead of, effectively listening, and following the advice, of public health experts, and scientists, etc! He has appealed to his core supporters, by, minimizing the impact and severity/ risk, of the pandemic, and, seeming to imply, whether one complies, by assuming social responsibility, social spacing, and wearing a mask, is personal choice. In turn, a large number of these individuals, equate any public health measures, which may limit, their so – called, freedoms, as illegal, and wrong! The President has often, equated the health risks, with the harm, done, by closing the economy, even stating, the financial/ economic risks/ ramifications, are worse than the health risks. Considering, to – date, there have been, in this nation, over 7 million cases, and over 200, 000 deaths, from this horrendous virus, the President’s rhetoric, demands, and the example (he failed to set, in the right direction), are, perhaps, not only foolish, but dangerous! With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 5 reasons, this is harmful to the nation, the world, and our citizens.

1. Public’s comfort zone: Regardless of what any politician urges, unless/ until, a significant portion of the public, perceives it, as being safe, to return, to specific settings, they simply won’t! Polls and surveys, seem to indicate, a significant percentage of Americans, don’t feel comfortable, for example, going into restaurants, and eating, inside! When this President has denied science, and data, and declared his own opinions, as facts, and then, urged others, to believe him, rather than the experts, only his core supporters, buy – into, his statements, and ideas! Considering, few Americans seem to trust Trump, it is obvious, they won’t be comfortable, following his approach, sooner, than, it probably, makes sense!

2. If curve isn’t flattened, businesses are harmed: As of yesterday, two – thirds of our states, had rising infection rates, and certain states, were experiencing, significant increases, in hospitalizations, and deaths! Unless/ until, smart public health measures, are followed, this pandemic will remain, out – of – control! When, this is not the case, it harms businesses, because, they can’t operate properly, and, it delays, a return, to any sense of normal!

3. Human life has inherent value: Isn’t it, somewhat, strange/ odd, many of the same people, who proclaim, they are Pro – Life, support a President, who minimizes the loss of life, from this pandemic, and has stated, it only affects older people, and he deserves an A+, for his handling of this pandemic! Every American deserves the right, to enjoy, the right to life, liberty, health, and well – being!

4. Science Matters, etc: The reality is, science matters, data counts, and public health, must be an essential right, for every American! Simply, denying reality, as the President does, doesn’t make, his opinions, facts!

5. Proof is in the numbers: With less than 5% of the world’s population, this nation has experienced, over 20% of the cases, and deaths, due to COVID! Instead of receiving an A+, an average grade of C, would mean, our numbers, would approximate, the rest – of – the – world! This seems to mean, we have probably lost about 150, 000 more lives, than we should have!

If we look at what’s occurred, those states, which followed the recommendations of the public health experts, and got most of their citizens to cooperate, especially, in terms of wearing a mask, and social spacing, have the lowest infection rates, today! Listen to the experts, instead of the wishes and opinions of the stable genius!
