Niche Product to Sell on eBay – Agave Nectar

A niche product is an item for which there is identifiable demand but very little competition. There is a specialized use for the product and a niche product is generally not produced with mass usage in mind. eBay sellers are continually seeking the next niche product to help increase their sales, market share, and repeat business from customers. Amazingly enough, niche products can be right under your nose and you may not even realize it. Some niche products are actually food and grocery items.

Agave, best known as the prized plant used to make tequila, has been used for generations as a food additive. Agave nectar, known as “honey water” in Mexico, has a low glycemic index and can be used to flavor baked goods, drinks, and other foods. The Aztecs used the center of the Agave plant in their cooking, and considered it a gift from their gods. In modern times, consumers and medical professionals alike are becoming more aware of the many benefits of agave nectar, and it is growing in popularity.

The nectar is sold in select grocery stores, often near the honey, and is available in many health food stores. It is bottled as a clear or brown liquid, and works well as a sugar substitute. The nectar has a similar caloric count to sugar, but it is processed more slowly in the body, making it a good alternative for diabetics or others who prefer to avoid the sugar rush white sugar can cause. Those looking to sell this niche product should use this fact in their marketing.

In recipes, cooks may choose to cut the liquid ingredients in their recipes by one-third, and decrease their cooking temperature by 25 degrees. In general, you can use 25% less nectar than sugar in a recipe, but you may need to adjust for personal preference or taste. Agave works especially well when mixed into tea, lemonade, and other beverages that require sweetening, and dissolves well in both hot and cold liquids.

eBay sellers may be able to source this niche product from warehouse clubs such as Sam’s Club or Costco. The niche product has a high rate of sell through (between 90 and 100%), and sellers can make quite a profit by marking up the product’s price. A pack of two bottles costs around $8.00 at Costco, and sells for around $21 on eBay, so it’s easy to see the financial advantage for sellers.
